Smartphones For Seniors

In the fast changing world of personal technology devices, it’s often hard to keep up with the latest innovations, and even more so for tech-shy seniors. New technologies can be daunting even for tech-savvy users, but new technologies open a gap in the market for simplified smartphones, made specifically for tech-shy users. There are three phones in particular that users may find easy to navigate; Doro 824 SmartEasy, Samsung Galaxy Note5, and Jitterbug Smart. Let’s take a look at each.

Doro 824 SmartEasy

Doro 824 SmartEasy

Doro 824 SmartEasy is one of the most simplified smartphones available on the market today. The new Doro 824 SmartEasy sports a bright five-inch high-resolution touch screen display with large icons and text. It also offers customizable volume settings making it easier to hear conversations. The Doro 824 EasySmart’s interface is uncluttered and displays applications which are frequently used – such as contacts, call, text messaging, camera, email, and the internet – on the home screen.

Don’t worry about trying to navigate these features by yourself, let the built-in coach help out. The Doro 824 EasySmart offers a unique pre-installed ‘My Doro Manager’ app which can be downloaded by family or friends and gives them the remote ability to help manage and adjust the Doro smartphone from their smartphone no matter where they are.

For added convenience and safety, the Doro 824 provides three physical buttons on the front of the phone for quick, one-touch access to the home screen, recently used applications, and a back button that returns to the previous screen.

Last but not least, the Doro 824 has an emergency alert button on the back of the phone which will automatically dial one, predetermined contact in the event of an emergency. The Doro 824 is sold online at, Target stores and Sears stores.

Jitterbug Smart

Jitterbug Smart

The new 4th generation Jitterbug Smart is an Alcatel smartphone which has been rebranded and loaded with GreatCell’s simplified user software.

Jitterbug Smart is much larger than previous GreatCell smartphones with a big, bright 5.5-inch high-resolution touch screen and a simple, single-list menu on the home screen. This allows users easy access to frequently used features and one-touch access to contacts, plus other apps.

The Jitterbug Smart also includes a voice typing feature for emails and texts, and offers a variety of optional health and safety features, like MedCoach, which sends medication and prescription refill reminders.

That’s not all; the Jitterbug also has Urgent Care, which provides unlimited access to registered nurses and doctors to answer health questions, and a 5Star medical-alert service which allows you speak to a live emergency-alert agent around the clock. These features assist trained agents to confirm your location via GPS tracking technology and dispatch help as needed.

The Jitterbug Smart is available for purchase at, or at Best Buy, Rite Aid, Sears and Walmart stores.

Samsung Galaxy Note5

Samsung Galaxy Note5

The Samsung Galaxy Note5 isn’t specifically designed for seniors, however its large 5.7-inch screen and easy mode setting which simplifies the home screen layout and boosts the icon and font sizes makes this phone another good option to consider.

With the Easy mode turned on, the Note5’s home screen will display only the time, date, local weather, and six frequently used functions.

Users can easily access their 12 most important contacts by simply swiping right from the home screen, while access your 12 favourite apps is granted by swiping to the left.

The Galaxy Note5 is available in 32 and 64 GB storage options from and major carriers such as AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile.
